What is Heart-mind coherence?
Coherence is vitally important to help nourish our energetic system, promoting mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well being.
Science defines coherence in any system as harmonious connectedness between parts where virtually no energy is wasted. In our physical body, this non-wastage occurs when our systems are performing optimally, when we gain synchronisation between the heart, our respiratory system, heart rate variability/ blood pressure patterns etc. The benefits of heart-mind coherence are widely accepted now.
Benefits of coherence?
Among the many benefits of coherence are:
- calmness
- good physical energy levels,
- clear thinking,
- strong immune system function,
- it fires up the ‘whole brain’ - which connects the whole body.
- it connects up every part of you. Bringing all in. Harmonising your whole energy field.
- it connects to physical self to your energy field around you. (Science is telling now telling us that our subconscious is in the information field around us and that our neurons in our brain and heart tune into them).
- Practising Heart-Mind coherence every day will reap huge benefits for yourself.
How to develop coherence
Anyone can develop heart-mind coherence.
One of the simplest and quickest natural pathways to coherence is through intentional positive feelings and states of appreciation.
Conversely, we can quickly become incoherent when we are negative or hold onto old negative emotions, thoughts or beliefs.
The exercise below is a simple method to guide you into a state of heart-mind coherence.
With regular practice, it will help you make strong positive shifts in your mental, emotional, physical and emotional wellbeing.
Heart-brain coherence exercise - to release what is holding you back..
Step 1: Heart Focus
- Allow your whole body to relax - taking long deep breaths and breathing out any areas of tension.
- Move your attention to your heart-space
- If you like, place your hand over the centre of your chest to help to keep your attention in the heart area.
- Place all focus on your heart-space
- Slow your breathing to 6 counts in and 6 counts out
- Controlling your breathing tells your body you are safe
Step 2: Heart Breathing
- Breathe deeply but normally and imagine you are breathing air right through your heart and out through the heart, and as you exhale, feel it leaving through this area.
- Breathe slowly and deeper than normal. Continue breathing with ease until you find a natural inner rhythm that feels good to you.
Step 3: Heart Feeling (The most vital step)
- As you maintain your heart-focus and heart-breathing, now intentionally activate a positive feeling.
- Recall a time when you have felt a feeling of love or appreciation (perhaps a special event or the love you feel for a close friend or family member or much-loved pet. Perhaps a feeling of gratitude, appreciation, compassion and care.
- Now you have locked onto this Heart Focus, Heart Breathing and Heart Feeling, radiate this out to around 2m/ 6feet around you. To completely infuse your energy field with this feeling.
Step 4: Heart Healing
- Go deep into the awareness of your heart - find a feeling in your body that is holding you back right now from working your purpose.
- What is the emotion and where is it located in the body? What age is this emotion rooted in, what situation? Pour in gratitude from around you that you have just infused in your energy field. Pour in gratitude for the awareness of this part of your body. Pour in appreciation for the wisdom of your heart. Pour in compassion for yourself and pour in care.
- Release the emotion from your body on your next exhale with total forgiveness and love for everyone involved in that memory.
- Retune in your heart-feeling of gratitude, love, appreciation, compassion and care.
Scientifically we just:
๐Placed your body into total coherence - electrically engaging every part of you.
๐Induced the alpha brain state in your brain and heart to access your subconscious mind in a waking state.
๐Communicated with your parasympathetic nervous system.
๐Located where in the body a neuropeptide had been stored from an unprocessed traumatic event.
๐If you forgave - you released that neuropeptide to be metabolised by the body.
๐If you didn’t forgive - try again when you are ready.
Conversations with your heart
If you would like to go a little further with your Heart-Mind coherence exercise - you can follow the Coherence exercises 1-3 and then whilst in a state of coherence have a conversation with your heart to access your heart's wisdom every day.
Your heart holds the part of us which knows the answer to everything we need to know.
Your heart responds incredibly fast to give you 'your truth' - even before you finish asking.
The heart has no ego, and no programming - you can bypass the unconscious.
If you ask the mind you get the programmed response if you ask the heart you get the answer from your original soul self.
Converse with your heart:
Before you begin the heart-coherence steps 1-3...
- Write down a brief, simple, single question you want to know the answer to.
- Make your question direct and concise.
- Make it personal and about you only (not other people).
How your heart answers:
* brief, direct and concise
* never a story or a maybe
* never judgemental (won't label it good or bad)
* objective not subjective
Ask your heart a question:
Follow steps 1-3 of the Heart-Coherence exercise above..
Then ask your heart a simple baseline question to get the feeling of how quick that yes or no answer is for you: for example ask..
* is today Saturday?
* Am I in my house?
* Is today Christmas Day?
Notice how the yes and no feels - how fast, sure and unwavering it is. Remember this. If the answer to your questions is not this fast and precise - your mind is interfering.
If there is a pause, lack of sureity, a feeling of judgement in anyway, the mind is getting involved - repeat steps 1-3 of the heart-coherence exercise as necessary and ask again.
Now ask your prepared question...
Next ask: ‘Heart what do you need me to know right now in my life?
Next ask ‘Heart what do you need right now, from me?
You can trust these answers - this is the ultimate self-trust!
You know all the answers to any question you might have, you may just have lost touch with your heart a little and let your mind take over.
Do you want to know what else is really powerful about this? - Your heart’s desires project out into the Universe.
One of the most powerful ways I witnessed this in action is when I used this technique with my son who was struggling with the head versus heart over his school study options. I guided him into heart-mind coherence and then I went through every study option on option list and his heart gave him an immediate yes or no.
It was a great exercise for him and he immediately felt his selection was right. However, there was one extra 'yes' than he was allowed to select on his options form alongside his compulsory subjects.
So he used his mind to decide which one to drop.
The all-powerful heart is so magnetic though - it got its own way. Out-of-the-blue his school offered him the opportunity to drop one of the compulsory study subjects and to replace it with an optional selection, and there was space for an extra student on the subject which the heart had originally chosen.
